Anchored

“Whoever hears these teachings of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house. But it did not fall because it was built on rock. “Whoever hears these teachings of mine and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house. And it fell with a loud crash.”

Matthew 7:24-27

How anchored are you in Christ? Do the storms of life quickly bring you down and overwhelm you? Priscilla Jane Owens  penned it perfectly years ago in a hymnal Will your anchor hold in the storms of life”

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,

When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?

When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,

Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

Lyrics by Priscilla Jane Owens

This week the Lord highlighted to me one word and that was “anchor”. I asked Him to show me what he meant by this and He did. He did it in various ways. He told me I needed to be anchored in Him. One afternoon on my way home from work I overheard someone singing this very same hymn recorded above. I was stunned at the perfect orchestration of God. He aligned my week so that I would receive this word in various ways. He confirmed His word to me and I was certain that it was Him speaking to me about being anchored in Him.

You see, in life we will encounter diverse situations. Some may seem extremely difficult to handle but God promises that no matter what we face He will be with us. Interestingly when we face these trials He may not take them away quickly because they are sent to strengthen us in Him. He knows that if He allows us to go through “this particular” situation we will overcome but also grow stronger in Faith. Instead, He said it so plainly to us through Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9a. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

As we draw nearer to the new year, continue to prepare yourself by becoming anchored in God. When or if the storms come crashing in you and your entire family will be like the man who built his house upon the rock. God is the Rock of our salvation and He cannot ever be moved. I am confident that once you anchor your life in Him you will be fully protected.

I hope to encourage you through these final words:

But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,

on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.

We wait in hope for the Lord;

He is our help and our shield.

In him our hearts rejoice,

for we trust in his holy name.

May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,

even as we put our hope in you.

Psalm 33:18-22

Shalom.
